    School Vision & Mission





    P.S. 298, is a place where our learning community works together to provide students with meaningful experiences through rigorous, inquiry based instruction that makes them masterful decision makers and problem solvers. Student independence and ownership is the crux of our lesson planning and implementation. Our behavioral values of Citizenship, Pride, Respect (CPR) propels positive school culture and climate.

    As we strive for excellence, our highly trained staff, in collaboration with the parental community, provides challenging experiences to meet the high performance standards that our school fosters. We actively seek to broaden our perceptions and understanding of a changing world in an effort to interact with and become active members in a diverse society.​




    COMMUNITY.



    The Dr. Betty Shabazz School is committed to providing a quality interactive educational program for all children including ELL, special education and gifted students. Our school serves 263 students, of which 73% is African American, 24% is Hispanic, and 2% is Asian. 6% of our students are English Language Learners and 30% of our students are students with special needs.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.



    Our school recognizes that teaching and learning must serve as a springboard to improve student performance. With this in mind we have a developed a professional development process which helps our teaching body enhance their teaching practices through inter-visitations, instructional conversations, and modeling activities that promotes self-directed learning for students.



    You can expect experience, quality, professionalism and special attention to your child's education at PS 298 Dr. Betty Shabazz Elementary School.



    This is a pre-K through 5th grade school that shapes students in early childhood and elementary school in a way which leads them to embrace diversity, collaboration and competition and further develop the values of education, respect, self-esteem and self-worth and ultimately become productive citizens who value their place in the world.
